Raina: three month update

Snow is in the forecast, so I'd say that summer is definitely over. Raina was our little summer baby, and I'd say her newborn stage is long gone too. As sad as we are to see those sleepy early days go, we are thrilled to see this sweet girls personality bloom.

Beautiful. Happy. Sweet. Content. Easy. Those are the five words that best describe RG. She sleeps great, nurses greedily, and plays independently for longer and longer every day. There's not even a hint of that pesky gas that bothered her in the early days. Her fist is her best friend these days, other than her paci, of course.

Just in this last week she's begun to get a good grip on toys/loveys, look at them closely and then put them in her mouth. She's happy to sit in her snug seat for short little bursts, five to ten minutes at the most. Tummy time is best when she's on the floor watching her big brother play.

She sleeps in the rock'n'play during the day and starts the night out in it as well. She goes down for the night by 8pm and usually wakes up to nurse by 1am, when I bring her into bed with us, where she sleeps the rest of the night, usually until about 6 or at the latest 7. I change her diaper, get her dressed, let her 'play' on the bed while I get dressed and get Riggs breakfast and then she's back down for a nap around 8:30. She still sleeps quite a bit during the day, with at least two long (3 hour+) naps in there some where.

It's fascinating to experience how different even siblings can be as far as personality and growth right from the beginning. She's definitely a big smaller than Riggs was at her age, and like different things than he did. But she's probably even easier than he was, which is hard to believe since he was such a breeze as a baby. She loves to be swaddled just like he did though, and will fuss quite dramatically if she's not swaddled for a nap. Wrap her up, pop her paci in, and watch as she instantly relaxes and drifts off to sleep.

This week I removed all the 0-3m clothing that she's outgrown and filled her drawers and hangers with 3-6m items. Some of them are still pretty baggy on her, but lengthwise they fit perfectly. Size two diapers still fit great. Her little feet are slowly growing, but she still wears size 1 or 0-3m shoes.

[birthday on the left, three months on the right]

She's just about 14 pounds now, which puts her in the 75th percentile for weight and at 24.5 inches she's in the 76th percentile for height. Her head is growing so fast and is up to 16.25 inches now. I'm sad to see her outgrow some of her headbands, especially since they were all huge on her when she was a newborn!

I'm going to try very hard not to let the next couple of months pass by too quickly, but I know it's going to fly by no matter what I do. The holidays are my very favorite time of year, but because they're so packed with fun things to do, the days just seem to vanish almost magically. When the new year rolls around she'll be six months and I'll probably cry for a week.

I had to include this one to show that she does cry occasionally.
And Riggs wanted her to 'be happy' while he held her, so he
was quite put out by this particular round of tears.
