Riggs is ready for winter. Saturday I finally got my sewing machine back out from it's summer vacation and started working on a few projects I had been planning for a while. I had a pair of old, damaged heavy-wool Woolrich pants that Steve had lying around to make some nice winter pants for Riggs. They're definitely an outer layer meant to be worn in place of waterproof snow pants on the dryer days in winter.
I love how they turned out, especially since I am such a novice at garment sewing. I added a gusset in the crotch so they would be easier to move around in, and a high, wide elastic waistband for comfort.
I also recycled an old sweater I had into some lighter weight pants for him, they turned out perfect! The little stripes are so cute. I love being able to use old things I have lying around to make into adorable and functional clothing for Riggs.
After all that sewing I was in the mood for a delicious fall dessert so I whipped up this incredibly recipe fro Apple Brown Betty from Ree at the Pioneer Woman. Warm, with a generous scoop of vanilla icecream. SO GOOD.
I hope your weekend was as lovely as mine was, filled with warmth, friends, family, relaxation and laughter. Fall is nearly here in full force people, aren't you excited?!\

Those pants are adorable! They look store-bought. You have a chic little autumn baby right there! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd YUM, that Apple Brown Betty looks delicious. Anything warm with the name 'apple' in the title is perfect for consuming during this time of year!

DeleteI love both those pairs of pants - great job!! I've seen so many cute sewing projects lately - I think it's about time for me to learn so I can get in on the fun!! :)
ReplyDeleteyou should Nancy, in my opinion it's getting started that's the hardest part!
DeleteLittle Riggs has the best clothes! Nice work - wish I knew how to sew :(
ReplyDelete.:Marta:.
thanks Marta, maybe you could take a class? I've learned nearly everything just on my own, but I wish I knew more technical skills and such.
DeleteThis has been on my 'to-do' list for awhile! You did such a great job, Whitney! I have and obsession with stripped pants. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Lena! Striped pants are just wayyyy too cute!
DeleteThat apple pie looks so good! I need to make one soon.
ReplyDeleteI see that you have a pair of Norwegian "Nesna lobber" for your son.
I used shoes like that for my kids when they were small and they never was cold on their feet.
I really wish I had a pair of black ones for myself ;)
The 'pie' was soo good, and so easy too!
DeleteWe LOVE the lobben boots so much! I don't have a pair myself yet and was lucky enough to find Riggs' gently used. But I definitely plan on investing in a pair soon. They are great for our cold winters here! Not sure which color I would get, I like the black and the red too!
Those wool pants are just too sweet! Stay warm!
ReplyDeletethank you! it's start to get chillier but we've been enjoying it so far...lots of layers! :)
DeleteWhat a great idea with the sweater! I love those little boots too. My sewing machine is coming out of summer hibernation soon- maybe after I make myself some apple brown betty- boy that looks good!
ReplyDeletethanks mossy-stone! I got the idea making woolies when Riggs was a newborn as diaper covers. I always know I'm settling into fall when I start sewing and playing with yarn:)
DeleteOh my - both of those projects turned out so well! Good job! I need to try this with some of the old clothes I have laying around. I have more of Alex's clothes than I do mine, so if I get creative with those I'll have to send it to you for Riggs.
ReplyDeleteAnd we just made a peach crisp that was so good! I need to try it with apples soon.
ha definitely send them his way! :)
DeletePeach cobbler sounds amazing...now to go get some peaches!
I´m so "not-talanted" with sewing but I would love to learn it. So my next goal: learn it! There´s a machine in the house since I saw your clothes... really!!! Going to post a pic... check it out very soon!
ReplyDeleteyou can do it! can't wait to see some pictures!
DeleteThose pants are super cute, I wish I was that talented with a sewing machine!
