pregnancy update: 38 weeks

the vet wouldn't believe me that I was 38 weeks.
I assured her that it feels like a very large belly with a very active baby.
not sure how much bigger she wants me to be!

How Far Along? 38 weeks (14 days until my due date)

Size of Baby: Leek (over 19.5 inches and about 6.8 pounds)

Gender: Girl!

Weight Gain: Up exactly 30 pounds. Not sure I'll gain much from now on, with Riggs I think I stopped gaining and actually lost two pounds before he was born (12 days late).

Maternity Clothes: Yes, and I'm counting down the days until I can wear my normal clothes again. Which probably won't be for a few weeks at least after she's born, but still, getting so close!!

Nursery: Bags are packed, we're feeling ready. I haven't actually packed a bag for Steve but I did throw a spare set of clothes for him into my bag, just in case he's at work (where he gets verrrry dirty) when I go into labor and he has to come straight to the birth center.

Movement: Lots of movement and she seems to be staying head down, so it's mostly little feet and knees and elbows sticking out. Today at the chiropractor Dr. Jessica showed me how to feel her little (big?) head down in my pelvis and it was crazy to feel it and be like, "hey, there really is a nearly 7 pound baby inside of me that's about to come out".

Symptoms: Braxton hicks, so many of them! And starting to really be uncomfortable too. Midwives said it's a good thing, that my uterus is doing some of the work now so there will be less to do once active labor starts.

Sleeping a lot and well, although the peeing has definitely ramped up and every night I'm up at least 3 times to pee. No problems going back to sleep though so that's nice. I have been noticing a lot of heartburn just in the last week which I never had with Riggs so that's a little strange and new for me. It's not horrible but definitely makes me think about what I eat after about 4pm (chocolate, cooked tomato anything, citrus, NO).

Cravings: I want to eat a normal helping of food without feeling like I just ate a thanksgiving feast. I want to actually feel hungry. Those are my cravings haha.

What I Miss: Bending over without squatting/getting out of breath. Not having to pee SO BAD ALL THE TIME. My appetite.

Best Moment This Week: We set up the 4moms Rockaroo we bought for baby and Riggs has been 'practicing' with his kitty. He's such a sweetie!

Looking Forward to: Seeing the new Birth Center which is opening for births June 21st! I feel special for some reason that I had one baby at the old birth center and will have one at the new birth center, which they're calling 'the nest' and I just love that. My 39 week appt. will be at the new building and I can't wait!

  1. Oh my gosh, "the nest" is the perfect name for a birth center! You look so good, and reading through this gave me a really fast flask back to being super pregnant and experiencing all of those loving symptoms in the final weeks. Can't believe your baby girl is almost here, how exciting! And Riggs is such a cutie, he's going to make the best big brother.

  2. Isn't it the cutest name?! And I know, I think I'm really in denial haha. I can't wait to see how Riggs does being a big brother, I think he'll be pretty good at it :)

  3. Aww thanks Amy! I'll sneak in a few pictures and post them after my next appointment (next week) which is there. Plus I'll have pictures from when she's born too of course :)
